Trendify Labs position paper
Governance intelligence and public indicators
A position paper on AI systems that help people reason over public indicators without replacing public accountability.
Released 20 September 2026
The problem
Public data can improve visibility while still being incomplete, delayed or difficult to interpret. Reported incidents are not the same as total incidence. Revenue is not the same as service quality. The problem is how to help people connect indicators while preserving definitions, provenance and the role of institutions.
Trendify Labs' position
Trendify Labs believes governance AI should be designed as an accountable evidence system, not an automated decision-maker. Every answer should distinguish source data, calculation, inference and recommendation. Systems should make disagreement and missing data visible rather than turning uncertainty into an authoritative tone. What we will research
- Create provenance-first datasets for public safety, finance and service delivery.
- Build question-answering systems that cite the exact indicator and period used.
- Test robustness to missing, conflicting and politically sensitive data.
- Evaluate usefulness with public-interest practitioners, not only benchmark scores.
Evidence boundary
The supplied dataset includes two national reported-crime observations and one county own-source-revenue observation. It illustrates the need for definitions and provenance, but it cannot establish crime trends, causes, performance or governance quality.
What this paper does not claim: It does not claim that Trendify has solved this problem, that the supplied data is complete, or that a model performs well without a defined benchmark and reproducible evaluation.
What success would mean
Success would mean public-interest users can inspect how an answer was formed, challenge the interpretation, identify missing evidence and retain human responsibility for decisions.
