Trendify Labs position paper

Economic intelligence for complex markets

A position paper on building economic AI that represents local markets, informal activity and regional variation without pretending that one indicator explains an economy.

The problem

Economic questions are often answered with incomplete, delayed or overly aggregated data. A national growth figure can move upward while households, counties or sectors experience very different conditions. The research problem is therefore one of representation: how can AI connect indicators without hiding the local context behind them?

Trendify Labs' position

Trendify Labs positions economic intelligence as a structured reasoning problem. Models should show which indicators support an answer, distinguish observation from interpretation and expose uncertainty when data is sparse or incompatible. The goal is not automated economic authority. It is better-supported analysis for people who need to compare places, periods and sectors.

What we will research

  • Develop longitudinal county and sector datasets with clear provenance.
  • Test retrieval and reasoning over economic indicators, definitions and time periods.
  • Measure whether systems distinguish nominal, real, annual, quarterly and per-capita quantities.
  • Build uncertainty-aware outputs that show missing data and incompatible comparisons.

Evidence boundary

The supplied data contains two national nominal GDP observations and two county-product observations. It is useful for demonstrating schema and calculation design, but it is not enough to estimate economic trends, explain causes or compare all counties.

What this paper does not claim: It does not claim that Trendify has solved this problem, that the supplied data is complete, or that a model performs well without a defined benchmark and reproducible evaluation.

What success would mean

Success would mean an analyst can ask a complex economic question and receive a traceable answer: the relevant indicators, definitions, time window, calculation, limitations and links to the underlying records.
